According to the cartographist the Fortaleza (1) stood on the rocky spit in the Dutch period
called Zwart Bastion. The ma]) shows it had a gateway over which was a high tower on the land
side, a similar tower heing on the othcr end jutting in to the sea. A monastry, Wisericordia (2) is
near the Dutch bastion named Akerstopt.
